# Getting access

> How to sign up, verify your email, join your organization, and complete onboarding.

Merciv is organized around organizations. Everything you create lives inside your organization, and you join one through an invitation, an approved email domain, or an invite code.

## Sign up

    Open Merciv and click **Sign Up**. If a teammate sent you an invite link with a code, use their link — the code is applied automatically.

    Merciv is available for work email addresses only. If you try a personal address (such as a Gmail account), you'll see **Use your work email**. Click **Try another account** and sign up with your company email.

  <Step title="Verify your email">
    Merciv sends a verification link to your address and holds you at a **Check Your Email** screen. Click the link in the email, then click **I've Verified My Email** to continue. If nothing arrives, check your spam folder or try signing up again.

    After your first login, Merciv walks you through a short questionnaire before you can use the app. See [Onboarding](#onboarding) below.

  If you open a Merciv link from inside another app (such as LinkedIn, Instagram, or Facebook), login opens as a full-page redirect instead of a popup. This is expected.

## How you join an organization

After you authenticate, Merciv checks how your account should join:

* **Email invite.** If an organization admin invited your email address, the invite is accepted automatically and you land in that organization. This also works if you already have an account — pending invites are accepted at your next login.
* **Approved email domain.** Organizations can approve their company email domains. If your work email matches an approved domain, you join that organization automatically as a member.
* **Invite code.** A personal invite code or link from another Merciv user lets you through signup and attributes your signup to them. If you also have a pending email invite, the email invite takes precedence — you join the inviting organization.
* **Self-service signup.** Some customers can sign up without an invitation, which creates a new organization with them as its owner and admin.

  Self-service signup is available for select customers. If you don't have an invitation and can't sign up on your own, contact your Merciv representative.

## Onboarding

New users complete a short questionnaire before entering the app. Every page redirects to onboarding until it's finished.

* **Organization owners** answer four questions: your name, company name, industry, and role.
* **Members** joining an existing organization answer two: your name and role.

Industry and role are pickers with an "Other" option. Some steps can be skipped; name and company cannot. After the questions, a short personalized chat starts to tailor your experience — if it fails to load, click **Try Again** or skip it to finish.

Everything you enter here can be changed later in [Settings](/account/settings), and organization details can be updated by an admin in [organization settings](/admin/managing-your-organization).

## If you land on the waitlist

If you sign up without an invite, a valid invite code, or a matching approved domain, you'll see **"You're on the waitlist!"** — access to Merciv is by invitation. To get in:

* **Check the email address.** Invites are tied to the exact address they were sent to. Make sure you authenticated with the same email your admin invited (watch for aliases and typos).
* **Ask an organization admin to invite you.** Admins invite members from **Settings → Members**.
* **Use an invite link.** If a teammate shares their personal invite link, sign up through it so the code is applied.
* Still stuck? Contact your Merciv representative.

## Trouble logging in

* **Stuck on "Check Your Email":** you need to click the verification link before you can enter the app. Check spam, click the link, then **I've Verified My Email**.
* **Bounced back to the login page:** the app clears the partial session automatically so your next attempt starts clean. Try logging in again.
* **Logged in but no organization:** if you were removed from your only organization, you can still log in but can't work in a workspace. Ask an admin for a new invite.
